Only about 1.5 hours away and near Kirkwood ski resort is an alpine jewel called Silver Lake. We camped at the Silver Lake camp ground and enjoyed some of the amenities of Kit Carson Lodge.
The highlight of this trip was the hike to Lake Winnemucca. Starting at the top of the Carson Pass and winding through several landscapes the surprise was the fields of colorful wild flowers. The trail changed around every corner and traveled through brilliant green forest and featured sweeping vistas of Caples Lake.
