Rocking the Rubicon, hiking Lake Tahoe

July 14, 2013.
Starting at DL Bliss the Rubicon Trail follows along side the lake climbing up and down through lush forest and granite boulders.  You can take the trail into and around Emerald Bay.

We did not get that far this trip due to a late start and the goal to meet up with some others for a sunset paddle, but we managed a good six miles of pure Tahoe bliss.

We camped at Camp Richardson and enjoyed a meal at the Beacon, a favorite hang out right on the water.

Rock Gardens at Lake of the Sky

One day when God was busy placing mountains, valleys, rivers and lakes he found he had some left over granite.  He glanced around and saw one his alpine lakes, pure, pristine and reflecting the sky above.  Hmmm, maybe a little too perfect he thought.  So he tossed the granite and let it fall where it would.

Lake of the Sky is also known as Lake Tahoe.

July 4th on the American River

It was hot, but oh so cool!  We had a group of 16 today cruising down the American River.  I woke up wimpy, it was too hot, the shuttle is a pain, I will probably tip over in the rapids... BUT so glad I went.  The heat was mitigated with some intermittent cloud cover and occasional breeze.  The river was not too crowded, I think we went early enough to miss the big mass of rafters.  A Great Blue Heron and Snowy Egret welcomed us on the water and we saw a family of otters playing on the bank.

The rapids were fun and I had everything tied down just in case, but I made it and enjoyed every minute. We landed around 2 PM and my car temp read 108 Yikes!  We sure did not feel that on the water.

Cooler days coming up...paddling on
