Whales and Elephant seals at Point Reyes

Just catching up on some great trips in January.  And, good news, after no rain in January and extreme concerns of drought, we are getting drenched this 2nd week in February.

The Paddling Pushers visited Point Reyes on January 18 and it felt like a summer day.  Families were playing on beautiful, sunny Drakes Beach and it did not take long to layer down to t shirts while we hiked.  We got there early and while most of the group headed to the lighthouse I took off pretty much on my own to the elephant seal look out and to hike Chimney Rock.  I was rewarded with a very quiet and peaceful hike as the only other folks there were the docents setting up their scopes.

Elephant seals were everywhere!  I almost climbed over one blocking the road thinking it was a fallen tree.  Such funny looking, strangely beautiful creatures.

Enjoying the Olympics, go USA!
