Mendocino - Labor Day Weekend

Today is the first day of Fall, September 22, 2013.  It is hard to believe summer is over...but, six of us leave Friday for seven days in the San Juan Islands.  Rain or sun, it will be a grand adventure.  Meanwhile, I need to catch up on September.

Labor Day - Big Ocean!, sea caves, pour overs and slots, all lingo tied to kayaking in the ocean.  I spent Labor day weekend camping at Van Damme State Park and playing in the water off the coast.  Sacramento Sea Kayakers were hosting their annual trip to Van Damme and we had great group. I highly recommend this park.  Great camping spots and most important, hot showers, real bathrooms, mirrors, hot water and even electricity.

Fresh abalone was a real treat at our potluck.  We had several paddles to pick from but my buddy and I knew we wanted to spend our time on the ocean.  First day we launched at Russian Gulch with a foggy start.  Sunday was a sunny launch off Van Damme beach.  The ocean was like a lake that day.  We lucked out as within an hour of our landing back at the beach the area was fogged in.  I love the Mendocino and Fort Bragg area!

My New Hurricane!! First time on the water in Mendocino.
