Six weeks in April and May Part 1

I am several weeks into my six week trip. Today I am at a KOA CG in Flagstaff AZ. We had landed near Sedona at Dead Horse Ranch. Very nice park with a small Lagoon ( actually 3 small lagoons).

We had planned to head to campgrounds Lyman Lake and then Dutchman’s. But the weather was getting hotter and when we looked ahead..Holy Moly..Mid 90’s! Charlotte and I both said we need to find cooler weather. We discovered Flagstaff was 20 degrees cooler, being at 7500 feet. So we headed to the only spot we could find, a KOA. It is nice here, a little too close to the Highway and pretty tightly packed in but we have trees and shade and 73 degrees.

So let me back up.

Morro Bay Tuesday April 13. We started here with a SKEG kayak group of 20. We paddled Morro Bay. The tides were low so we did not get too far back into the estuary. But the weather was perfect, bike rides great, group was great. I love this campground and town.

Back side of the Rock, Cairn city

From there Cindy! Lori, Charlotte and I headed east. Our first real stop was Valley of Fire, Nevada. Wow! Amazing colors and rock formations. We hiked the rainbow view trail..( no real view but lots of sand to trudge through) and then my favorite, the Fire Wave.

So many things to see just around the Campground and roads. Big Horn Sheep were everywhere.

Kaibab Paiute CG in Arizona was our next stop. It was a nice well spaced out simple CG. It was great for Laundry. This was near Kanab AZ. We visited Pink Coral Sand Dunes SP and watched dozens of off roaders and some sand surfers playing in the dunes.
