I walk my dog just about every day at dawn. There is something special about being outside at first light. Some sunrises are spectacular and some are simple, but they all are a brand new beginning.
These last couple of weeks I have had to be out there before dawn, so I take my headlamp and venture out into the dark. Sometimes that is an adventure in itself. Last week I rounded the corner and came within feet of a couple of grazing deer. Luckily my dog did not break my arm and let them wander away calmly. This is the same dog who busted through the fence last year to chase a small herd. She did come back, four hours later.
The Thursday before Halloween we had a small group out on the lake for a Halloween fun paddle. The few of us who showed had some fun with costumes and decorations. The evening was warm and clear, the water was calm and the sunset was amazing. We watched the last of the rowing crews head back to the aquatic center and quiet descended on the lake.
Lake Tahoe at dawn, captured by my son this Summer. It is so quiet in the morning, it is easy to forget what a crowed world we live in.
Sunsets on the water can be amazing. Especially when followed by moonrise.
I did not want to leave. I knew that could be my last night paddle for a while. Weather is getting cooler and the time changes next weekend. There is something so special about being on the water on a warm night, watching the sun go down and moon rise up.

Love the Halloween Paddle Photos!!! Any plans for lighted boat parades this winter? We are having one December 2 if you want to paddle and light up the Noyo Harbor in Fort Bragg with us.
ReplyDeleteHi Cate, What a great idea, I remember doing that with big boats in Newport Beach harbor many years ago. I will put the idea out to the gang, we all love Mendocino and Fort Bragg, would love another excuse to go to the coast!
